Some fans are upset at Stoke’s late change to the Victory Parade route on Tuesday night after the start was moved from Trentham Gardens to the Sir Stanley Matthews Way.

Tony Gleave from Trentham was one that waited along with many others not realising that the start had been changed and was so upset that he sent the following email to us here at Vital Stoke:

Dear Sir,

Whatever happened? Many people in the Trentham area missed the parade as they were told the tour was starting at Ash green roundabout Trentham. (not all people has a PC to check the proposed route).
I was lead to believe that it was starting at Trentham and was even told by staff in the garden centre that the bus was leaving from the exhibition tent in the gardens. I waited for ages from 4.30pm but no one came so I left and started to walk to Ash Green roundabout where i met many people, including one guy who had come from Stafford, walking up and down and being wrongly informed, so not knowing where they should be.
I was then informed that most people were at the end of Stanley Matthews Way…..this is not Trentham, as many still in this city seem to think but Trentham Lakes area…which is really old Hem Heath..the old colliery site.

I passed many people who were waiting on the road side or outside the Trentham Hotel and so were very disappointed…..I met many on the way back who were even more disappointed as they were also under the illusion that the bus was coming through Trentham and so missed the parade; many children with flags/banners etc were very disappointed also……

By the time I got up to S.M.W. the parade was just getting to the corner and turning left to Blurton and also went so quickly by…..all over in 5 seconds of which many complained also at the speed of the buses and cars, that I and many could only get 1 foto, let alone 2.

The arrangements of the tour was a complete shambles for many in the Trentham area, as said, they were lead to believe it was either to start or pass through the Ash Green area.

Let’s hope the team plays better than the tour arrangements, as if not they will be relegated by Christmas

…….Tony Gleave, Trentham.
