Stoke City youngster Tom Edwards has been rewarded with a new and improved deal by the club this week following his first team breakthrough.

The 19 year old has signed a new four and a half year deal at the Bet365 Stadium and he has seven appearances to his name across all competitions this year. He made his debut against run away league leaders Manchester City back in October at the Etihad Stadium and having made six more appearances since then, five have been in the Premier League.

The right back has also taken the clubs’ Under 18 Player of the Year in each of the last two season and having been handed his first professional deal only last summer, this is certainly a quick reward for his efforts so far as signed a new deal back in September as well.

Speaking to the Official Website chief executive Tony Scholes explained.

‘It`s a measure of the progress we feel Tom has made that this is the third contract he has signed in little over eight months. Since signing his last contract in September, Tom has broken into the first team in the Premier League and shown why we hold him in such high regard. Tom has been with the Club since he was nine and is a great example to all the young players in the Academy. There is nothing better than seeing a local progress through the ranks all the way to the first team. It`s a fantastic achievement and once which Tom and all those individuals who have played a part in his development should be very proud of.’

The news went over well with the fanbase – a small selection of responses.
