Welcome to the exclusive interview with Stoke City’s promotion winning goalkeeper Carlo Nash as he joins Michael Stockley and provides us with a small insight into his career to date as a potter.

Everyone at Stoke VitalFootball would like to thank Carlo for taking his time out to talk to us.

Welcome to VitalFootball Carlo I am looking forward to seeing what insight we can get into your career so far at Stoke City FC.

Michael: Firstly, Please can you describe a typical morning for you Carlo before you tackle training in the weekdays?

Carlo Nash: Well Michael, – No need for an alarm clock anymore as my daughter wakes me up usually 6.30 every morning. We both have breakfast, then I go to training! I get to training just after 9 to do some weights and some warm-ups so I’m ready to train properly! Out at 10.30 to train for at least two hours.

M: Do you have any particular preparation/routines/superstitions for match days and does this change whether its home or away?

C: No real superstitions before games. The preparation alters slightly when we are away for obvious reasons.

M: Who do you share a room with on away days?

C: We are lucky enough to have our own rooms on away trips. However, we do share pre-season but to be honest we’re too knackered to talk!!

M: What are your views on the rotation policy at the club, do you miss being part of the First Team action?

C: I get asked this question a lot and the obvious answer is yes of course I miss playing and it does frustrate the hell out of me. But my philosophy is, control the controllable. That means being the fittest I can be so that if I am called upon I’m ready to step in !

M: In your opinion, should Goal-Line Technology be brought into the game?

C: If it works and clears up the debates over goals then it would be beneficial in my opinion!

M: What is your favourite moment/game as a Stoke player to date?

C: It has to be the last game of the season against Leicester when we were promoted! What a day!

M: What are your ambitions for your career?

C: Well, contrary to some people’s opinions, I believe I can still play and do a great job as a goalkeeper. I would like to play as long as possible. As long as I know I can still do a job then I will continue playing. After that I would like to stay in football as a manager, assistant or coach. Who knows?!

M: How do you relax after a match?

C: It’s very hard to relax after a match when the adrenalin has been pumping! I try and have a hot bath though to relax and unwind if I can!

M: Do you follow any other football teams or even other sports?

C: I do follow all the teams I have played for and especially Everton being a toffees fan. I love sport and follow most of them as well.

M: Do you follow any of the message boards or fanzines? If so, how does the criticism or praise affect you and the other players?

C: I never really follow any, no. I think you can get positive and negative reactions doing that, and I’d rather just get on with things. No matter who you are in this world, some people love you, some hate you! That’s life, you can’t please everyone, it’s out of your control!

M: Just a couple of general questions Carlo – Which player is the worst dressed at the club?

C: That has to be our captain, Ryan Shawcross. He plays it simple, sticking to black, grey and blue! A no nonsense guy!

M: Who turns up late to training the most?

C: Wow, that one is very hard to answer. What I can say is that we have fines for being late and some lads are very charitable!

M: Which player is the most intelligent?

C: I think footballers generally now are a lot more intelligent than people realise. I know a lot of the lads would probably say me but I think it’s just because I’m the grandad of the team!!

M: Who is the comedian in the team?

C: We’re all comedians, I thought you realised that! We all have great banter and are playing tricks on each other all the time. That’s why our team spirit at stoke is so great!

M: On a final Note Carlo, If you could have one final achievement before retiring, what would it be?

C: Playing champions league football! (We all know he means with Stoke)

As I am sure you will agree a great snippet from Carlo today and thank you again for this.

ITS NOT OVER YET…Coming soon we have an interview with Stoke City’s Keeper Asmir Begovic and the long anticipated interview with none other than ex City right back…Carl Hoefkens!
