Reports in the Dutch press are stating that reserve keeper, Ed De Goey will be joining Sparta Rotterdam as a player/coach and will therefore not be renewing his contract at the Britannia.

These reports have also been confirmed by his agent Gerrit Lagendijk, who said: ‘We’ve been in discussions with Sparta Rotterdam and Ed would be one of the two goalkeepers for one season and do the goalkeeper coaching.
‘We’ve had talks with Wiljan Vloet (Sparta coach) and now we are waiting to hear. I don’t think he will be going back to Stoke.’

The former Chelsea and Feyenoord player has been in the Potteries for the last three years but has not seen much action this season and has only started one game.

The renowned keeper, who will turn 40 just before Christmas, was widely expected to retire last season but surprised fans with his decision to sign another one year contract. It’ll be a big disappointment as he has been a very able deputy to Steve Simonsen and another hole for the new manager to have to fill before the start of the new season.
