Peter Crouch was delighted to have come off the bench in Saturday’s game between Stoke and Southampton and score the all important winner.

With the score balanced at one all within a few minutes of his introduction in the 70th minute, Crouch did was he does best and flicked home what became our winner.

With it being the 36 year old’s second goal of the league season, he told the Official Website that having been on the bench again of late, he was delighted to make a telling contribution when called upon.

‘Of course when you are on the bench you hope to come on and make an impact and thankfully I`ve managed to do that by scoring. The goal was a huge release for me because when you are on the bench you become frustrated with how things are going so to come to come on and score was great.’

Crouch went on to say.

‘I pride myself on getting into the box and making sure I`m there if anything drops which thankfully was the case today. I think Maxim Choupo-Moting was actually trying to shoot but I`ve managed to be in the right place at the right time to score the winner. When you score a late goal which turns out to be the winner it is probably one of the best feelings you can have. I`ll never get tired of those moments.’

With Saido Berahino’s ongoing lack of form in front of the net, including a penalty miss in the tie, many will be hoping Crouch is called on a little more often by Mark Hughes.
