Goalkeeper Jack Butland took to social media this week to deny rumours that he had told Stoke City that he wanted to move on this summer.
With Stoke’s struggles so far this year, the departure of Mark Hughes and the arrival of Paul Lambert, there has been speculation that the England man was looking to depart and although there wasn’t really speculation over the January transfer window that you could hang your hat on, there was an undercurrent and those unqualified stories have returned in some corners of the internet and the tabloids.
In response to those reports, linking him with potential summer moves to the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal, Butland said simply.
‘Before this spreads any further, I haven’t told the club I want to leave. I’m focused on doing everything I can to keep the club in this division!’
Butland also politely reminded fans to not believe everything they read in the press, and given the main source for this regurgitation of the story appears to be the Daily Star via something called the GamblingTimes – well really – did Jack need to point that out?
