Stoke City chief executive Tony Scholes has confirmed that goalkeeper Asmir Begovic is going nowhere.

A story in a Bosnian newspaper stated that Begovic was on the verge of joining Liverpool and would be available to train with the Merseyside outfit on their preseason tour in July.

Tony Scholes told Stoke`s official website: “‘Asmir’s agent rang me as soon as these stories surfaced. He assures me that Asmir doesn’t know the Bosnian journalist and has certainly never spoken to him.

‘It’s complete fabrication and unfortunately it has been picked up by a paper in this country.

‘It’s inevitable when a manager parts company with a Club that there’s a period of uncertainty and erroneous newspaper reports certainly don’t help matters.’

Begovic has been speculated to be moving away from the Britannia Stadium with a number of top clubs such as Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea and Liverpool reportedly waiting in the wings for City`s number one.
