James Beattie is reported to have been discussing personal terms at the Brit, but it’s too late for a deal to be done ahead of the weekend clash with Liverpool.

Stoke have apparently had a £2.5m bid for the 30 year old accepted by Sheffield United but torturous negotiations are likely to delay any chance of a final agreement until next week.

Tony Pulis had been hoping to land the striker before tomorrow’s difficult match with the League leaders at the Brit as Stoke struggle for numbers in attack with Fuller suspended, Sidibe injured and Kitson only just returning from an injury lay-off.

So it looks like winger, Matthew Etherington will be the sole new signing on display at the Brit for tomorrow’s televised late afternoon kick-off.
