Stoke City this evening have confirmed the signing of Austrian international Moritz Bauer.

The 25 year old right back has signed a four and a half year deal after Stoke agreed an undisclosed fee with Russian side Rubin Kazan for his services.

He becomes our first signing of the January transfer window and terms were agreed, with a medical taking place, last week.

Chief executive Tony Scholes told the Official Website.

‘Moritz is a player we have been trailing for some time and was someone Mark Hughes wanted to bring into the Club. Moritz came over to England last week to undergo his medical and discuss terms and we have now been able to conclude his transfer. He`s a very highly-regarded player who broke into the Austrian senior side last year and he adds to the defensive resources at our disposal.’

Although he represents Austria at international level he was born in Switzerland, starting his career with Grasshoppers Zurich. His time with them saw him make more than 90 league appearances before he made the switch to Rubin Kazan in 2016.

He leaves them having played 37 league games.

Yesterday Stoke also added Frenchman Moussa Niakate to our Under 23 squad and the 21 year old had been on trial from Paris FC.

Academy Director Gareth Jennings said.

‘We are really pleased to have brought Moussa to the Club and look forward to seeing him develop. He`s been on trial with us for a while now which has given him time to get to know the Club and he`s really looking forward to getting started now that we have completed the formalities of his move.’
