Mark Hughes expects Joe Allen, forced off against former club Liverpool on Saturday to be sidelined for ’10 to 14 days’ – meaning he could miss the Premier League meetings with Hull and Swansea.

Allen, Stoke’s top goalscorer with six goals, ‘tweaked his hamstring’ in the first half of the Potters’ 2-1 defeat at the bet365 Stadium at the weekend.

Stoke’s boss knows Allen will be a miss along with, already injured, Geoff Cameron – out with a thigh strain. Hughes was quoted by the Stoke Sentinel.

‘It looks like Joe’s tweaked his hamstring unfortunately and that was a setback because Geoff and Joe are important to us in those midfield areas. I don’t think it’s a significant injury that will keep him out for weeks but we might be looking at 10 to 14 days unfortunately.’

However, it isn’t all bad news as Xherdan Shaqiri and Jonathan Walters of course returned in the defeat to Liverpool before Allen, who would reportedly cost Stoke a further £500,000 – on top of the £13m he cost last summer – if we finish in the top 10, was forced off.
