Stoke City are represented in the latest Premier League team of the week that has been selected by BBC pundit Garth Crooks.

Actually Garth is now down as a ‘Football Analyst’ these days, a posh term for a pundit then!

The performance by Joe Allen in the two nil victory over Huddersfield Town at the weekend at the Bet365 Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other, in the opinion of the former Spurs striker anyway, most impressive performers in the topflight over the latest weekend.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Crooks, we’ll also not argue with it, selected Allen as part of his team but explaining his choice he told the BBC.

‘I’m delighted Joe Allen is grabbing some of the headlines at Stoke. He was one of the players I thought never threw the towel in under Mark Hughes and he strikes me as a model professional in every sense. Against Huddersfield, under difficult circumstances, he proved it. A new manager, and more attention than usual, is not the ideal preparation for a must-win game. However, win it Stoke did – and with a performance built on true grit. We know Paul Lambert was not the club’s first choice as manager, but if you can get a response from the players that signifies they are prepared to fight and battle then you can be the 31st choice for all I care. Allen covers the ground as well as any midfield player in the country and is starting to score the goals his performances deserve. This was a well-deserved win for the Potters, Allen and Lambert in particular. Well done boys.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Allen for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course the points.

Full Team:
